A letter to say goodbye to Zack’s Hearing Teacher

To Jana,

When I first learned of Zackie’s hearing loss, at 4 months old, I was devasted.
I cried and mourned the loss of his right to hear and wondered how in the world my little boy would wear hearing aids at 6 months.
I wondered how he could overcome this new obstacle and I reached out everywhere to get
him the help he needed to reach his potential…then we found you!

From the moment you came to our house for that first meeting, I could tell you would help us navigate this new world. As we welcomed you into our home, our family and our hearts, your love for Zack and our entire family was evident. You gave us all the support we needed to learn how to incorporate hearing aids, learning to listen skills and eventually signs from My Smart Hands into our fun and crazy house.

As a vital member of our Dream Team, you worked with so many of Zackie’s therapists to be sure that we all worked towards his goals. Whether it was text messages, a sushi lunch or a fun playdate, we always looked forward to each and every visit.
We were so incredibly proud of you when you went to Tanzania to help at Forever Angels Baby Home Orphanage where you lent your talents to other children who were deaf. We were so happy that you gained that experience from knowing us.

We will miss your smile, your warmth and your fun nature.

We truly thank you for being such an important part of our lives over the last two years and we will miss you dearly.

We can’t tell you how much we appreciate all that you have done…from teaching a signing class at their birthday party to cuddling with Jayden so he doesn’t feel left out to finding Zack the school of our dreams…you have helped get us to today.
We thank you and we love you!

Wow……….I am sooo proud of our daughter Jana!! What a wonderful tribute to her..thank-you. We have always known that she would be special from the time at 2 years old when I found her crying for another little boy who was unhappy. We are proud of her accomplishments and all the deaf teacher’s contributions and caring love. We are all lucky to have her in our lives……….Jana’s Mom
