Our Wednesdays are usually our crazy days of physio and speech… busy, but wonderful is how I would describe these weekly encounters with caring therapists who are helping our son to move and communicate in this world.
Yesterday was a day of ‘mommy moments’ with Zackie. We went to a new setting at the hospital for physio to try out their equipment, adapted bikes and therapeutic pool. The morning started off with our therapist’s wish list for Zack’s activities for the morning. First up….a ride on a tricycle! As we put Zack on the trike and placed his feet in velcro straps to stay on the pedals, his face began to tell us that we were in for a really special ride. He beamed with excitement and shifted his body to tell us to ‘get going’! We pushed him down to the secret hallway, while I walked backwards capturing this incredible moment on film. Then it happened… both of my beautiful twin boys were ‘racing’ together side by side down the hall.
In that moment, I was taken back to the beginning with our boys…the sadness I felt because it appeared that Zack may never walk having such low muscle tone, sadness that they may never do ‘twin’ activities at the same time, sadness because I may never have moments like this. But it happened… our beautiful Zack was riding a tricycle, beaming from ear to ear, so thrilled with his freedom, full of pride for his own accomplishment and watching his mommy burst with emotions for her little champion. Between tears and cheers, I took photos of the moment that almost wasn’t.

Way to go Zake and way to go Jayden, for being such a good twin brother.

Addison is learning to grab her walker and use it to get around, and my heart still skips a beat every time she does it. Because for so long, I wasn’t sure she ever would. And to think that someday she may walk unassisted…well, I cry at that thought!
