What Do Twin Pregnancies, Sneezing, and Squats All Have in Common?

I loved everything about being pregnant with the twins. I loved gaining weight, being able to eat what I wanted, and being so in tune with how my body worked. I was proud and amazed to be growing two more miracles to complete our family!

twin pregnancy

What I didn’t know was how different my twin pregnancy would be from my singleton one. When our first was born, my body bounced back quite quickly. I had to struggle for the last 15lbs, but my body worked the same as it had before I got pregnant! When I was carrying the twins, I had some small complications, including gestational diabetes during my nine months but I enjoyed every second of being pregnant with two babies! I was healthy, ate really well, even slept well and kept my weight down. My body was in great shape, probably knowing that it had to get ready for the busy life of a mom to THREE boys!

It wasn’t until after the boys were born that I realized the toll it took on my body. My body just worked differently after the twin pregnancy- the swelling took forever to go down, I had some issues with the stitching they did, and of course, my bladder was never the same again! You can imagine the challenges of having to pee every minute of the day when you have three young kids! I literally knew EVERY single public washroom in the city and would have to drag my boys in the large stall with me when we were out running errands.

I knew that with being the mother of three boys, I would never be able to pee in private, but I never expected that I’d have to cross my legs to laugh, sneeze and don’t even mention the trampoline! Did my bladder shrink or move during my pregnancy? Were the twins just so heavy that it had impacted my bladder even after delivery? I don’t know why it happens, but the good news is that I’m not alone. In fact, there is even a name for it!  About 1 in 3 of us experiences Light Bladder Leakage (LBL). And it happens to all kinds of women (especially moms!), for all kinds of reasons, including stress-related leakage due to sneezing, laughing, coughing and exercise (check, check, check and check)!

It wasn’t until I recently started back to the gym, that I realized that I had to do something so I could feel more confident during those squats and floor exercises. It’s not a diaper, it’s not a period pad, it’s a Poise Thin Shape for LBL that is the perfect solution to help me feel confident at the gym or any other time I may need extra protection! These aren’t like maxi pads and offer worry-free protection to help you laugh, sneeze and enjoy life without the odor and wetness of LBL.

I was referred to a specialist last month after some tests, and was given a prescription to control my bladder. I was also prescribed to do kegels which is still something new. Before this, I started to wear Natracare’s light pads for incontinence since I did leak when I sneeze, cough or laugh. It’s frustrating in the colder weather when I cannot completely empty and have to go several times just when I’m about to leave the house. I’d rather not drink water if it’s going to be like this, but, doing so will leave you cold and dehydrated so, it’s not really a win-win.

Thanks, I have a supply of pads at home. I also leaked a little when I was bending while doing housework, that’s why I wear pantyliners/pads everyday. I also wear Depends which I use when I have periods so, any disasters are contained.

Yep I for sure had LBL when I was pregnant with both of my kids, & then afterwards when I came down with an awful bout of bronchitis. Lots of coughing = LBL!

Thank you so much! It feel comforting to know I am not alone. I love my twins so much and it was worth the changes my body has gone through. Sneezing and coughs and those tickle moments get me…
