Birthday Destination: Win with #IndigoKids!

I was so thrilled to be asked by MomCentral to visit IndigoKids, buy my nephew a birthday gift and then write about it!

IndigoKids is one of my favourite places to take my two boys.  It has always been a place for our family to take a “field trip” on the weekends.  It was also the natural choice for birthday present shopping too!  I really love the store experience, but I also checked out the new Birthday Shopping website where you can not only shop for the perfect birthday gift, but also buy ready-made lootbags and even invitations!

While Ty is an avid reader (he’s reading Judy Blume right now) and loves to explore what’s new on the shelves, Jayden’s all about the dress up clothes and toys.

Jayden has been staying home with me on the days he is not in JK, so we made plans for a “date” to get my nephew his gift and have some mommy/Jayden time at Indigo.  We went to the newly renovated and PTPA Approved IndigoKids store in Newmarket.  You can’t miss the department at the back of the store, with fabulous decor and kid-friendly furniture- it SCREAMS fun!

Jayden knew he was getting a treat for “helping” me with this fun task, so he was really keen to get to work searching for his special toy.  We literally spent an hour in the store looking through the cool retro toys, comparing prices to other toy stores (they were competitive or even beat the small boutique toy stores with lots of Lego on sale) and finding the perfect gift for my nephew Tristan’s 5th birthday.

Tristan loves the same type of toys as Jayden does and I knew that Indigo had always been our destination for Playmobil and Lego!  Jayden really enjoys the Playmobil themed carrying cases- so that is what we decided to get Tristan!  Jayden’s tough decision was whether to choose the Pirates or Police set.

We were also planning our trip to Orlando and I wanted to get the boys a special book and small toy that could be a fun surprise on the plane.  After lots of investigating, some reading time in the tea cups and a lesson in choice-making, we had our purchases ready!

The salespeople were so friendly, helpful and fabulous with kids.  They have a checkout right in the kids departement, so your child can play while you pay!  The best part was, FREE WRAPPING!!!  I not only got Tristan’s gift wrapped, but I also decided to wrap the plane treats for the boys too!  Jayden and I had the best time together- as you can see by his fabulous pose!  I’ve always been a loyal Indigo shopper and now, I won’t think twice about going to their stores or shopping online for birthday gifts as well!

What’s not to love about Indigo Kids? My family heads to Chapters at least 2x a week after dinner (mom and dad with starbucks in hand) and peruse the bookshelves and gifts while the little one enjoys reading and playing in the Indigo Kids section! So much fun.
We love the variety of books, toys & crafts and also when purchasing gifts how easy it is esp. with the free gift wrapping!

Great review! Just like you my kids love to go for a couple of hours and check out the new books – sit in the tea cup and enjoy a good read. It lets them check out a variety of books before making their choice. We are huge fans of Indigo and so proud that they earned the PTPA Seal of Approval! If we won the kids would have a blast choosing some new books!

What’s not to love? They really ‘get it’ and how kids love to touch and play and kids are allowed to do that. My older son is an avid reader while my younger is more into the toys and fun stuff right now – this is the one place I can take them and they’re both happy.

As a side note every year for mother’s day I ask for a Chapters Gift Card and part of the gift is me going to browse books for the afternoon – by myself. I love Mother’s Day.

This is fun! I love going to Indigo Kids as I have two children – one who is four with special needs and one who is 2 – basically it is like having twins… I can sit with my son with special needs and read a book at his developmental level and my other son can pick out his own. When we get bored of that we can play with the toys! Thomas the tank engine train track is often the first choice : )

I really love Indigo Kids and Chapters in general because, a) as a homeschool parent, they have a great corner of educational workbooks that are Canadian and support learning! b)they have a huge selection of fun early reading books that encouraged my timid reader to push through the beginning stages and work hard to read! c) they have a kid friendly play area so my boys can stay busy while I look around! 🙂
