Kickin' It Old Skool with Netflix for #TBT

You already know that the kids and I have been making our way through the 9 seasons of “The Facts of Life” on Netflix and that it would not be uncommon for Jayden to be singing that theme song as he goes about his day, but in breaking “Throwback TV” news, THIS happened the other night. Yes, I introduced the boys to one of my fave throwback shows from back in the day… ‘The Fresh Prince‘!

Okay, so they didn’t think that it was hilarious at Hilary was dating a VERY young Don Cheadle who is now on “House of Lies” on Netflix (yes, I binged watched that one) and sure, they didn’t get the references to Will Smith’s music or the 80s fashion but we had a blast watching together! I totally love watching older shows like ‘Diff’rent Strokes‘, ‘The Facts of Life‘ and yes, even ‘The Fresh Prince‘ to relive my youth now that I’m, *cough*, over 40. I think these shows are pretty progressive for their time and I love how they discuss race in a much more open way than we do now. Just think of how many times Will says that Carleton “just has a tan” and is ‘more white than black‘. How would we deal with these issues today? Not only are these shows totally entertaining for kids and adults, but there are some great teachable moments about life back during those days. So, do you know all the words to this theme song?

Now, I never had a “Fresh Prince” fade, but I do happen to live with someone who had some serious hair issues in the 80s. So, in “Throwback Thursday” style, I share this awesome photo of Paul in his Fresh Prince Era!
